On Monday, 18 February 2019, in the Prehistory Department of the National Museum BiH, delivery of technical works on restoration of ceiling and wall paintings was carried out. The technical delivery was attended by representatives of the contractor, the company “Koto” from Banja Luka, representatives of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments of FBiH, the National Museum, USA Embassy in BiH and the Commission to Preserve National Monuments. The value of the contracted works, which commenced last year in November and ended in extraordinary short period, is BAM 197,437.50.

The works were carried out within the project „Preventive conservation of collections of the National Museum BiH in Sarajevo“, which has been implemented by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments, and which is funded by the Special fund of USA ambassadors for preservation of cultural heritage in cooperation with the USA Embassy in BiH.

Ceiling and wall paintings, which were the subject of the conservation and restoration procedures, represent a rare example of secco painting on the ground of Bosnia and Herzegovina with their preserved secession form. The hall of the Prehistory Department is decorated with compositions of ceiling paintings with floral and zoomorphic motifs, and with idealized faces of muses and nymphs. In addition to valuable painting, the aesthetic value of this space is supported by treatment of wall surfaces which comprises the profiling of architectural elements - pillars, wreaths, capitals and arches.
